01 / Award rate & consulting multiplier

Build your hourly rate from the pay guide.

Editable 2×–3× model

Use the supplied Professional Employees Award (MA000065), effective 1 July 2026, as the hourly benchmark for the 2×–3× arrangement you described. Confirm the applicable classification and multiplier with Sue.

Work & quoted fee

Editable scenario

This is your gross quoted fee. Editing it selects a custom rate. Costs, super and any tax reserve are shown separately below.

Examples only. Paid hours and ongoing work have not been guaranteed. Add extra time below only if it is outside core hours.

GST & superannuation

Both sides

12.5% is the requested modelling rate. Current statutory SG is 12%; the actual contract determines responsibility. Official reference

Tax & timing

Cash planning

Applied to positive fees less Hafsa-paid cash costs, before super. An editable reserve, not actual income tax or a payroll calculation.

Monthly = annual ÷ 12. Annual costs occur once each year; one-off costs can be removed for a later-year comparison.

Extra hours · meetings, travel, training & revisions

Hours per working week, in addition to core hours. Paid time uses the quoted hourly fee.

Billable
Billable
Unpaid

Sue confirmed requested meetings and direct site travel as billable. Travel to her usual office is excluded. Training and revision payments remain to be agreed.

Vehicle costs · separate from travel time

Use an agreed cost estimate, not an assumed tax-deduction rate. Reimbursement terms and GST handling must be agreed separately.

Your consulting rate & gross earnings

Why is the amount left lower than my hourly fee?

Tax reserve is money set aside for planning, not an actual tax calculation. Super is shown separately as retirement savings. Change or exclude these items using the controls above and the cost options below.

After costs & selected reserves

Estimated cash left after deductions.

Super is held separately.
GST collected is not earnings.

PI + PL is one combined A$60/month budget (A$720/year), supplied for this model. The A$500 tax-consultant fee occurs once annually and replaces the earlier A$300 assumption. Add BAS or bookkeeping only if outside that annual service.

03 / The complete picture

From quoted fee to available cash.

All four time scales use the same annual model, so costs and reserves reconcile.

Sue-paid costs are separate contributions or direct payments, outside Hafsa’s fee invoice. No GST credits are assumed for either party. Hafsa’s income-tax reserve remains personal; a higher negotiated fee can model additional support.

GST alternatives keep the same fee excluding GST as your selected setup. “No GST” is a comparison, not a choice to ignore required registration. “Costs & super excluded” also excludes vehicle and one-off costs; the selected tax-reserve setting still applies.

05 / Employee alternative

Salary & wage comparison.

A separate employee scenario. No GST on wages and no consulting business costs deducted here.

Same planning method; separate editable rate.

Salary starts at the PDF’s A$34.57/hour graduate example and is fully editable. Select the applicable classification above and use its base here, or enter another hourly wage or annual salary. The 2×–3× multiplier above models the consulting fee. Wages have no GST. Casual base rates already include loading; paid weeks are editable. Overtime, penalty rates, allowances and employer obligations need separate assessment. No classification is assigned to Hafsa by this calculator.

06 / A basis for the conversation

What is modelled. What needs agreement.

Working assumptions

  • The custom consulting fee starts at A$90/hour. Award-based 2×, 2.5×, 3× and custom multipliers are editable alternatives. The selected classification and final terms need confirmation with Sue.
  • 20 core hours/week and 46 consulting weeks are editable examples. Salary starts at the PDF’s A$34.57/hour graduate example, with separate paid hours and weeks.
  • PI + PL: A$60/month combined. Tax consultant: A$500 once per year. These are the supplied budgets for this version.
  • 12.5% super is the requested modelling rate. Payer choices illustrate negotiations, not legal obligations.
  • Optional expenses start at zero. Add insurance extras only if not already in the A$60 payment.
  • Download a scenario or the calculator to preserve exact settings. Each visitor can explore independently.

Points to settle together

  • Fee, GST basis, paid hours, duration and an initial review date.
  • Training and revision payments; core hours versus additional time.
  • Travel time, vehicle expenses, cost contributions and reimbursement arrangements.
  • Final premium, duties, broker and instalment fees, exclusions and optional cover. Carlo’s 5 November email still had the new policy under assessment.
  • Written contract, super and workers’ compensation responsibilities; invoice frequency, payment terms and termination notice.
